The Oriental Beauty tea plantation is located at the hill area of Northwest Taiwan where the altitude is about 300-800 meter high. This area is surrounded by cloud and mist year round. The drainage advantage of hills provides ideal environment for tea tree planting. As this area is far away from cities, the soil and water are kept in good conditions and away from pollution./p>

Special environment is required to plant oriental beauty tea trees. The tea trees need to be planted in the leeward side of hill. Humidity and sufficient sunshine are necessary and no pollution is acceptable. The buds need to be pierced by the Jacobiasca formosana (one kind of insects live in tea farms) then they can be materials for Oriental Beauty tea. When Jacobiasca formosana pierces into tea leaves, it absorbs water content and nutrient from tea leaves but doesn’t eat it. Its secretion generates enzyme when being exposed under sunshine and the tea buds can not do photosynthesis under this circumstance. It causes the tea leaves to be small. The buds become white and leaves appear the mix colors of red, yellow and green. The Oriental Beauty tea is medium-fermented and the aroma comes from complicate compounds of fruits and honey.

Not all tea leaves can be materials for Oriental Beauty tea.The tea leaves for producing Oriental Beauty tea need to be picked by experienced workers and processed with special traditional procedures. In general, only about 40%-50% of raw materials can be used to produce the high quality Oriental Beauty tea. In addition, sometimes when the weather is too hot or drought for Jacobiasca formosana to survive, the tea leaves output will decrease. This is why the Orient Beauty Oolong is so rare and more valuable than others.
