Mt. Li Shan tea region lies in the most north point of Nantou County, and is the boundary of Taichung and Hualian County. Mt. Li Shan tea region is at the high altitude of more than 2000 meters and is ideal for high mountain tea planting. The tea planting area is about 20 acres only. As the tea farms are located at high altitude, the temperature difference is huge between day time and night time. The area is surrounded by cloud and mist through out the year. Moreover, it snows in the winter. It causes the growth period of tea trees even longer. As a result, the tea leaves have thicker mesophyll and great taste.
Li shan is also a famous place for fruits and vegetables planting. Because the tea farms scatters among fruit trees and thus the tea trees absorb the natural fragrance of fruits. Li Shan tea has the special taste of the natural sweetness of pear. This characteristic makes Li Shan Oolong the highest grade of tea around the world.
